Executive Function Checklist for Parents

Empowering Your Child Starts Here

Executive functioning skills help children plan, organize, manage time, regulate emotions, remember information, and complete tasks independently. When executive functioning challenges are present, children may appear forgetful, disorganized, distracted, or overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities.

Our Executive Function Checklist helps parents identify common executive functioning concerns and better understand areas where additional support may be beneficial.

What Are Executive Function Skills?

Executive functions are the brain's management system.

These skills allow children to:

  • Organize materials and assignments
  • Follow multi-step directions
  • Start tasks independently
  • Manage time effectively
  • Maintain attention and focus
  • Regulate emotions
  • Adapt to changes in routine
  • Complete projects and responsibilities

Children with executive functioning challenges often know what they need to do but struggle with the systems required to do it consistently.

Why Executive Function Skills Matter

Strong executive functioning skills support success both inside and outside the classroom. These skills affect academic performance, independence, self-confidence, emotional regulation, and long-term life success.

With the right support, children can strengthen executive functioning skills and learn practical strategies that help them thrive at school, at home, and in everyday life.
